One of Asia’s leading insurance companies with offices in 1100+ locations was looking for a next-generation reporting and analytics platform so that both internal employees and insurance agents could have access to the latest data and insights.
Background & Context
The company was using Oracle Discoverer for its reporting and analytics needs, but it was looking for an easier-to-use solution with self-service capabilities.
Additionally, the company was looking for a solution with embedded analytics, so the company’s agents could also access certain reports and insights. Keeping in mind all these requirements, the company decided to implement Orbit for reporting, analytics, and BI.
Project Scope
- The company is currently using Oracle Discoverer for its reporting needs. The business has various verticals and users have created numerous reports. These reports were mainly used for extracting data rather than deriving insights. To garner insights, they were still building Excel models and analyzing the data manually. With the help of Orbit, they intend to adopt industry best practices for reporting and BI. The company is looking to centralize its reporting platform and overall make it more efficient.
- Using Orbit’s Embedded Analytics capabilities, they want to “democratize data” access through a secured channel to thousands of agents, who’ll now have access to relevant dashboards and reports on their intranet.
- While the company has all its data on its on-premise server, they are exploring unlimited possibilities of using Orbit Connectors and integrating with Amazon Redshift, and creating reports and dashboards.
The Solution
Orbit’s implementation team kickstarted the project by importing the various domains (reports under different business areas or verticals) to Orbit. Since the company was using several business applications and systems, with Orbit, it was easy to unify data from disparate sources.
Currently, we are exploring the benefits of creating a centralized warehouse in RedShift for reporting and analytics. While this is not currently in scope, it is in the roadmap for the customer to eventually modernize and migrate their entire data to the cloud.
Some of the key capabilities of Orbit’s operational reporting and analytics solution that came in handy include:
- Empowering the business user with self-service features to generate real-time transactional reports and get insights.
- Orbit’s Embedded Analytics capabilities enable the agents to access data and insights from the web browser after they log in to their intranet with their agent ids.
- Makes it easier to track key metrics and KPIs in real-time, with mobile-ready dashboards
- Pulling all relevant data scattered across different systems, in different formats, from both on-premise and cloud-based applications to provide a unified view
- Allows drilling down from the summary to the transactional and line level of detail in any report
- Plugins like Excel Edge for Excel Reporting and connectors help in quickly connecting and creating reports
- Scheduling reports – daily, weekly, and monthly or based on their custom calendar
- Collaborating with other team members by sharing reports/analytics-based insights
Impact and Benefits
With Orbit, reports are generated with greater efficiency. As we mentioned above, the process of creating a report with data from 0.5 million rows of data was 97% faster.
Self-service is an empowering feature that lets business users generate their reports in real-time and “on-demand”, without dependence on IT.
The scheduling feature as well as the visualization capabilities further provide users with flexibility and ease of use. This way, users and agents (thanks to embedded analytics) can keep pace with business operations as Orbit enables keeping track of business metrics and KPIs in real-time. Different queries can be posed to generate data summaries as required by the users.
Orbit’s underlying technology architecture is designed with cutting-edge data management capabilities, with a focus on data security and data governance, and includes world-class data modeling capabilities.
